Embarrassed by this interloper

No running!
I still have pain in the pelvis (stress fracture) AND the knees!

Alas more time off is required to at least fix the Stressy.
I was confident three months would have done it but.... apparently not!

I have reverted to one exercise session a day, I have upped the press ups (push ups) from 300 to 400 per session (5 X 80). I try and tie those in with shoulder presses and chin ups - only 5 X 10 but I'm getting more comfortable with them and might increase it to 5 X 15 Chin ups.

Checking out Brett Larners Japan Running News I was entertained by his coverage of the Mens 1500m National Championship.
Copied here" The men’s 1500 m saw an unexpected face steal the win from national record holder and six-time defending national champion Fumikazu Kobayashi (Team NTN). Running against Kobayashi and two other athletes holding the B-standard, this year’s 5000 m national champion, Yuichiro Ueno (Team S&B), started off the 1500 m in last place. Ueno has developed a bit of a reputation as an idiot for always going out too hard. Rounding the first corner he went wide, passing the entire field and audaciously opening a considerable gap. Two runners initially tried to follow but soon sat back and joined the chase pack, which for the most part seemed not to take Ueno's breakaway seriously. Ueno clocked 59.4 for the first and second laps, not especially quick but an indication either of how little respect the field of 1500 m specialists gave him or how lazy they were. Kobayashi in particular waited in the pack, clearly planning to kick his way to the win with the least effort necessary.

At the bell Kobayashi took off and Ueno began to lose ground. He looked to be in range, but on the final curve he had a kick of his own and Kobayashi could only watch as the title slipped away. Adding insult to injury, Ueno began to thump his chest and wave down the home stretch, even looking back just before crossing the line. He clocked 3:42.51, exactly tying his PB, with Kobayashi 2nd in 3:44.34. Without a World Championships qualifying time to his name Ueno will not be doubling in Berlin, but he was gleefully happy to add a second national title to his name just days after his first, proving he is among Japan's best after a long period of setbacks. Doing it by humiliating a pack of more experienced athletes who were content to run conservatively made Ueno's run the highlight of this year's Nationals. Maybe his month racing in California this spring taught Ueno a few things about being aggressive and taking chances. Or maybe he is just a lucky fool who got away with it for once. Embarrassed by this interloper from the longer distances, Kobayashi may or may not be named to the Berlin team and will have to sweat it out or try again, and harder, next month."

Does anyone remember when John Treacy caught Steve Ovett by surprise and dipped under his raised arms to beat Steve!!!???
Or the the time Tom Byers the American 'rabbit' ran away from the field in the Dream Mile (??) to beat the field!!!???

11KM Roo+Lake !

Sunday 11KM Roo+Lake 50mins

It was slow but I managed to get around old faithful.
I waded in the pool up to my waist for 10mins after.
It is now far too cold for swimming but hopefully the sub 20 O C temps help
control post run swelling.
Later in the day my knees were painful so I took an anti inflam.

I saw this article online here;

Ballarat veteran distance runner Steve Moneghetti led in a hometown trifecta in the Victoria Open 15km Road Championships around Lake Wendouree on Saturday.

Moneghetti, competing for Ballarat YCW, claimed the title for the first time in two decades in a time of 46:32 ahead of Duer Yoa (46:41) and Nathan Hartigan (46:44). Yoa had finished just seconds ahead of Moneghetti over the 10km course of the Sandown Classic in late May, but the extra racing distance proved to be to the advantage of the former Olympic marathoner.

Ben Ashkettle was first across the line in 46:20, but as an invitational runner was not eligible for the state title - leaving the next three to collect the medals.

Ashkettle, 20, is based in the United States at Northern Arizona University and only arrived back in Australia a couple of days ago.

It was a similar scenario in the open women's championship with South Australian invitation entrant Tara Palm first home. Palm, who was the second woman home at the Sandown Classic in May, continues to go from strength to strength, with her winning time of 51:42 good enough for a three minute victory over Kathryn Ewels (55:00), who was crowned state champion.

Kristy McCarthy (55:17) and Tarli Bird (55:21) took away the silver and bronze medals respectively in a close finish.

Mid Life Crisis or Triumph & Disaster!

So just back from spending thousands in London, my wife some how sanctioned me to proceed with my long desired dream to again acquire a Triumph Stag!
I had one as a 28 y.o. and had it stored in my garage when I first came to Australia in 1988. It remained there rusting away until we came to Australia in 2004 when I had to sell it for next to nothing !
I said to my wife then that when we got to Oz I would buy one.
Well that became reality on Tuesday when I flew up to Townsville and picked up my dream car!
I brought it back on the Train from Townsville (I will never do that journey again unless I can sequest myself away from the Pensioners that made up the vast majority of economy class 'seated' passengers! i.e. the only way I'd ever do that 24HOUR!!!! trip again is if I got a sleeper carriage to myself or family - I didn't this time as it was suggested that I could be sharing a sleeper with up to two strangers!!!!).
So anyway, I felt 'Cool As" as I left Roma St with the 4.4.Litre V 8 reverberating through dual 2 inch exhausts!!
Love soon turned to panic and dismay as I got to Upper Kedron and 'She' conked out! Had to get it towed to the garage and call up the Mrs to meet me there - She was not pleased!! So I still haven't got it back but I am sure that it will provide me with a diversionary interest should I not manage to shift these bloody injuries!
For those that dont know, the hard top comes off and it has a concealed soft top - bring on Don Henley and Boys of Summer - now where are my Wayfarers?

OK so its not Don Henley and its not as good a car as a Stag but you get the picture??

Frost on the Car!

I left the car on the drive last night and this morning there was frost on the roof!! At this rate we'll have to move to Cairns 7.5 O C at my house this morning.

I went for an 8KM run from work yesterday - the bad news is I think my return to running is premature as the dull ache from the stress fracture is worsening and the knees are still shot.

I had my first thoughts that I might not be able to make a running come back and was wondering if there is Australian Masters Cycling that I might need to check out !

I just saw that Ronaldo is going to Real Madrid for preposterous sum of money! There is no loyalty in football and I guess the football transfer 'merry go round' will continue on through the break!

Even so some some really quick times were recorded . Well done Matty Phillips on 35m35 PB! and a tremendous run from M40 Geoff Berkeley with 32m47!

Ran Again!

Sunday 10.00am 6KM Roo 26m10

Still a dull ache in the pelvis but it doesn't seem to get any worse as the run progresses so worth carrying on in a reserved and easy fashion.

Went to see Terminator Salvation with Maxey this arvo - great action.

We saw two 4 -1 to the Arsenal games at the Emirates! First was V Liverpool in FA Youth Cup Final first leg = 33,000 fans!
Second was 4 - 1 V Stoke.

Results BUPA London 10KM

I might have had a good race with my old buddy Paul Simmons or fellow Shaftesbury Harrier Peter Stainer, there again I had ' joined' Salford Harriers in order to run in Pauls team for the National Masters Relay. 361 runners completed the M45 age group!
