30km done salt stained top. Wind played havoc with my mohican. |
A 2.6km warm up at home with Sascha (the dog) then out to the Redcliffe for a long run on Sunday. I looked at my watch after two K's on thought that's pretty quick for so little effort! I didn't realize I must have been blown along by the wind. Running Westerly, Southerly and then Easterly and then reversed, I had both the benefit and burden of very strong winds all the way. There were white caps and waves at Margate where you very rarely see them due the calming influence of Moreton Island out in the bay.
I was enjoying just ticking off the K's, nice and steady, not pushing it.
I was going to turn around at 10k but had just ran through all the market stalls at Redcliffe and didn't want to face that again so soon and as I felt pretty easy, decided to run on to 15K which is the Ted Smout bridge. The wind had me bent over double at some sections.
Finished off 30K's at 4;05 kms and loved the fact that my black top was covered in salt stains. Tried to take a photo to capture it but didn't come out in the picture.
A nice easy week planned for me now just steady running and maybe a few rides.

It was a very confident and relaxed David McSweeney who posed for his camera this morning to take selfies confident but a shade dishevelled after coming out of self imposed exile following a harrowing week of controversy that threatened the Scotsman's assault on the age record at the Gold Coast 10k this Saturday . With the immigration matter now sorted out after the government backed down on their threat to deport the former international face and now hands of Garmin, it remains to be seen if the ordeal has left any permanent scars . The Scotsman was certainly in fine form as he handled my questions with his customary aplomb and good grace ." I'm in ( expletive deleted) career best form as you know and some of the times I've been posting are just ( expletive deleted) sensational . I can hardly believe them myself . Certainly the opposition are worried and if they're not they must be ( expletive deleted ) stupid . The age record is a bit ( expletive deleted) soft and I'd like to add it to my 45/49 age record to repay my supporters who turned out at the Rocks park run on Saturday . They're basically just a bunch of plodders and try hards but mean well and my setting a new record will add some excitement to their ( expletive deleted) drab lives . " When I asked where he saw his opposition coming from the man known the world over as the GTrain was at his diplomatic best ." ( Expletive deleted) Nowhere! Complacency is my biggest problem . I'm essentially running against the clock for the record . The only pressure is what I'm putting on myself . An age graded win is a certainty now so I need to find some extra incentive and motivation . No disrespect to the opposition who ever they are but how do you honestly compete against a ( expletive deleted ) 15:53/33:29 double ? Monna was good in his day but that day was yesterday . I'm only interested in the future . " The man known in India as the Garmin Lama said he would be relaxing this week and catching up with writing his memoirs . When asked whether his comments were "off or on the record " McSweeney gesticulated wildly and flew into a rage . " You publish a word of this and I'll sue your ( expletive deleted ) ( expletive deleted ) . For the record it's the usual crap . Happy to just do well , good opposition , can't beat Monna ....blah blah ... "
That's a great long run Dave. You can get carried away sometimes when you're running along the foreshores looking out on the bright blue ocean getting in a nice rhythm. Sometimes you want to just keep running exploring more scenery.I did exactly that around Christmas holidays staying at rainnbow bay in Coolangatta.I ran 21km in a northerly direction so easy and then I turned around to go back and hit a wall of wind. It was a bit of a struggle running back but I made the 42.2kms. A crazy idea.If you keep these long runs going you shoulder have no trouble age grading higher than the Robot. He does his long runs a no faster than 5 minute/km. That's a big advantage when you're only running 10km at Gold Coast. You should blitz it and get some records on the way including this built up age grading challenge from the robot.I notice your training is a bit one paced but if it works for you keep it going. Good luck at Gold Coast
Shardy that's just your near death experience talking . You've been to the edge of the abyss and looked eternity in the eye ( and didn't blink ) . The GTrain will visit you in hospital and push you around in your wheel chair . You'll walk again ( someday) . He'll smash the robot for you . That will make you feel better . He'll set a record . I reckon he'll give you a Lusty Lucy doll as well or at least give you a substantial discount .
Lucy needs to go on a diet mate !
That's not funny you guys ! David and I had to survive on take away while he was in hiding . And besides David said he liked me with a fuller figure so go suck on eggs you .
What's the record anyway Dave ? You must be a fair chance the way you're travelling . Good luck anyway .
Yes I agree with the last comment. You should go close to breaking 33 minutes at the Gold Coast on your current 5km form. You are getting better with age. I don't know how you do it. I notice form other comments there's a fare bit of pressure on you to beat this robot fellow on age grading at the Gold Coast. What have you got to prove. Didn't you already beat him on age grading at Minnippi Park run and hold the age graded record at some other Park Run? How many goes does this robot get to try and beat you on age grading? You're a legend already and I think you'll have no problems knocking off the robot. Have a great race on Saturday. Make it a fast one. Good Luck. Don't let lusty lucy and that immigration matter slow you down. It's all been cleared up anyway Hasn't it? Once again good luck and run hard.
Yes I totally agree with the last comment . You're a synch to break 33 . This robot fellow isn't in the same league . Like comparing the Grand Canyon to a crack in the Sandgate pavement . Use that immigration nonsense as motivation . Remember as well that you're only as good as your last spectacular age graded performance . Look at poor Monna . Yesterday's man . The future is all about the GTrain . Go you Scottish good thing !
I'm in absolute and unequivocal agreement with the profound and learned summaries of the previous anonymousis . Isn't the robot the love child of an ex patriate Scotsman masquerading as a cybernetic geratric? And isn't Lusty Lucy his sister ? Like most of the planet I've followed this drama as it has unfolded on Garmin connect and have been totally absorbed to the point of addiction . My wife is addicted as well . She says David has a striking resemblance to George Cloney and hopes the mouth ulcers aren't too disfiguring . You couldn't notice them in this week's selfies but it was a poor light and we suspect a hint of airbrushing ? Best of luck old boy for Saturday and hope you give that record a jolley good old rattle . Pity about poor Shardy's back . Apparently he suffered a back spasm attempting to inflate his bagpipes . He'd be there on Saturday waving his pathetic little Mr. Garmin doll but he can no longer walk anymore but for consolation reads your book The Mr.Garmin Story to find inspiration to battle on against overwhelming and debilitating adversity .
Listen you guys I'm not the Robot's sister and I'm not fat . How about we just focus on running . That's what David's doing . Since he stopped playing his bagpipes the mouth ulcers have vanished . His new prosthetic knees and legs are fine as you can tell from his breath taking racing and training performances and save heaps of weight as well . He's asked me to remind his fans he won't be slowing down to sign autographs along the course as he has to focus on the record this time . Remember as well to visit the GTrain memorabilia tent as there will be lots of bargains on offer . The Garmin Lama fridge magnets are not going to last at $3.99 and Mr.Garmin head visors designed to give that Mohawk effect are a steal at $9.99 . No good if like the Robot you're as bald as a badger and to think he's not even 30 yet ! What a loser .
Looks like you're peaking nicely mate . Good idea to stay off the bike . You don't want to get yourself run over again like in 2012 . Not when you're this close to immortality . Reckon you'll give the record a good shake and win another age graded world c'ship for sure . Silicon life forms can't compete against carbon . For me it's carbon every time as its a far more stable element . We want you to smash the robot once and for all . He's been very quite this week . Must be feeling the heat . He ran very poorly at the Rocks . Don't rub it in too much when you smash him .

About time someone stood up for the robot - to quote some one else, it's a damned shame that he should suffer the petty barbs of assorted dullards, bums, and hacks, hag-ridden with myopia, apathy, and complacence, and generally stuck in a bog of their own stagnant mediocrity. Pretenders to his age grade supremacy have come & gone over the years - he endures.
OK having done my good deed for the elderly all I can say is smash it on Saturday Dave.
Dave S
Dave S ( Scroopey) has interpreted Thistlewaite 's Braille offerings to perfection ( we didn't know you could read Braille mate . Are you blind ?) Thistlewaite does challenge us to reflect more deeply on life and show compassion for all sentient life forms be they robotic or geratric or both . It was also a poignant comment to say that they who are looking only for superficial gratification and age graded glory will do the 10k on Saturday while those looking to experience the collective scope and drama of life all encapsulated in a few brief hours will tackle the Marathon on Sunday . All credit to those heros .
Can you shop on line for GTrain memorabilia ? Just curious .
The Robot deserves everything that's dished out to him . He's little more than a cybernetic blood sucker feeding off the glory of the Garmin Lama . The Scotsman has proved time and time again that he performs under pressure and delivers the goods to his adoring fans every time . He's certainly enriched my life that's for sure and Lusty Lucy certainly isn't fat . I'd call her 'homely' with a full but healthy figure and 60.4 kgs is hardly overweight as she is a little taller than Dave . He did lose a few centimetres with the new prosthetic legs remember . I predict David may go close to 95% age grading on Saturday . Certainly would be a shot in the arm for my appallingly low self confidence if he smashes that record .
Listen plodder would you stop living your life vicariously through David . He's under enough pressure as it is from his countless fans in Australia and on the sub continent without you talking up this ridiculous age grading nonsense with the robot and by the way I'm now down to 58.5 kgs . My water content was very high that day I was 60.4 kgs . I suggest very politely that you need to get a life of your own . OK ?
