M45 Jamie Harrison 5000m 15m46.05

NSW State Champs.
Jamie must have front run a fine sub 16m in what I'm guessing were difficult conditions (Windy if anything like Brissey these last few days!) . M50 Keith Bateman again beat M40 Paul Arthur!
Some good 800m performances  amd Jamies Dad - what a 1500m at 67!

M45 Brett Winter 5000m 15m51.54

I was sitting at work yesterday checking out the Queensland Masters 5000m Championship results ran on Monday night in good conditions (not humid and calm). Stand out performance was M45 BRETT WINTER 15m51.54 ! I thought who the hell is Brett Winter ?
Never heard of him! Surely this time was some sort of mistake? A fellow M45 Queenslander running in my backyard running sub 16Mins!!
So I googled him and saw the previous weekend he'd finished 2nd in a road 5KM in the low 16's , also saw an entry about a Toowoomba Cycle Race! Maybe hes come over from the Tri! ?
Then I saw he'd finished second as a Junior (in 1979) in the Australian CC Champs!!!! So there we have it, startling news!! a serious contender in the M45 ranks in my own backyard - absolutely fantastic news! Of course I don't know what he's been doing in the interim years but to front run a 5000m in 15m51 (probably lapped the field) means this guy is very good. I sat there feeling the kind of stomach butterflies you get before a race! This man will provide me with immense motivation and I really cant wait to race him and meet him find out his story (might be similar to me - ran well as a Junior gave up the sport and came back as a Master?) Anyone who knows any details please post a comment.
Good performances from Marcia Sheer M50 Queensland Record and also Shawn Claydon and Peter Reeves. Also fantastic to see two legends of Masters track Alan Bradford and Col Mcleod battling it out together in the M70's.
Here are the results;

M50 Ian Furness British Masters CC Champion

My old Lufbra buddy Ian ("Furney Babe") Furness won the British Masters CC Championship last weeekend. A fabulous star studded field included legendary talents Nick Rose, Michael Hager, and Alex Rowe. I am amazed at how well Ian is running, he topped the World M50 5000m rankings for 2008. When we were at Lufbra, we were very much in the shadow of World Class Open stars but somehow age has treated Furney Babe well - very well!

This is what Nick Rose looked like 'back in the day'.

Allan Cook M45 800m 2:00.70

I just found this result from 21st February, the Australian Masters Games, in Melbourne (Geelong).
I sometimes bemoan the fact that there seems to be a paucity of Australian Masters Runners Racing track but unbeknown to me down in Melbourne there are some pretty hot 800m runners!, in particular this M45-49 800m race was top quality! To see a current  Australian M45 runner very close to 2mins is very encouraging! (alongside Dr.JH 2m01.  ). It was some 20 years ago, Queenslander, Alan Bradford was running World Best times under 2m.
I also noted Allan Cook won the 400m in 55secs so he has real speed but his endurance was not quite what it should be with a only a 4m24 1500m. Full results here

Left Posterior Ilium

Sacral , Ilium,  all the same to me! Different part of the pelvis but actually the left posterior Ilium is where my stressy is! Immediately adjacent to the sacroiliac joint. "Bone oedema and an unusual fracture line are demonstrated at this site"
My Consultant said for the Radiologist to say "unusual" really meant this is unusual!

Check out my MRI ! Really freaky looking at your own flesh and bone! even more freaky that I'm prepared to expose myself !

The CT Scan showed nothing unusual ie the stressy was not caused by anything untoward (tumor). Dr Friss said not to start running before June and to take it easy when I do restart!

I continue to pursue my upper body exercise with a passion and have invested in a "Perfect Pull Up" bar (you fix it to a door frame) for yet another exercise option. I seem to remember in my youth managing to do a maximum of about a dozen 'pull ups' so that will be my first goal (haven't put the thing up yet!)
Craig/Dave/Tim thanks for your comments!

Stress Fracture to the Sacral!

My Consultants first words to me were it was a jolly good thing we sent you for an MRI before we did anything else as the results showed up a stress fracture to the sacral bone of the hip parallel to the sacroiliac joint. In all his time he'd never seen a "stressy" located where mine was, though a quick google finds some studies of runners suffering stressy's close by see here
He said 3 months for recovery, try walking with a stick(!!!) for a month and only walk when necessary.
Rowing / Cycling / Swimming and core exercises are OK
In a way the diagnosis is a good thing as a stressy will clear up with rest by itself, though it does mean that the European Masters 'Out of Stadium' Championships, where I'd hope to compete against the best in Europe over 10K and Half Mara is now out of the equation sadly! As is the Gold Coast Mara or Half.
I shall focus on my core and get by with other exercise in the meantime (incidentally today I started doing push ups using a straight finger stance! Only 10 before reverting to palms but nevertheless it's a start).
DrJH coined it with the technical vernacular "Shaggers Pelvis" , I wish!
World Masters Games in Sydney in October will have to be the next goal. But I would dearly like to be able to at least jog around Parly Hill (London) in May.

Glenda Banighan Australian W45 3000m 10m11Rec

My thanks to Matty for posting notification on CoolRunning and to Ronnie for alerting me that Glenda ran a new Women's 45-49 year 3000m Record performance 10m11 on Friday night.
Achieved on a training regime deep into Tokyo Marathon preparation that really is a terrific performance!

The previous Monday at the State Athletic Facility Brendan Whelan M35 won the State Masters Champs title in 33m10. Ronnie Peters picked up his umpteenth State title in 34m50 for the M55.
I guess conditions would not have been conducive to fast times with the heat and humidity that continues to linger around Brissey.

This evening I had the MRI, a strange experience lying in a cocoon for 20mins being bombarded by all sorts of quirky sounds and sensations! Last night I went for a jog just to confirm in my own mind that there really was something worthwhile to scan! I got to about 2K's before the pain got really bad. I finished off the Roo 6KM loop. The pain seemed to be fairly constant i.e. not on any particular phase of the running motion but its a very deep seated pain hard to pinpoint . I was in a all sorts of trouble after finishing so again took prescription pain relief which helped after an hour or so. The benefit in my mind was that it convinces me I have a problem and if anything irritating it by jogging might help to show up consequences in the scan.
Of course they never tell you results then and there, so that will have to wait until I can get to see Dr.Friis.
