10 x 800m 2:33 with 67 recovery

Track season is now completed for this summer but I think I will keep the long interval short recovery sessions going.
Nudgee was swarming with mozzies and as humid as ever. I completed the session as normal these days blind on times just hitting lap each time I finished or started an interval. Drenched in sweat by end of session. Still about 6 sprinters using the track which I find surprising.

The Garmin Lama has announced this morning (officially) that the May 2nd Minnippii park run world age graded challenge is to be called Bazza's Bloody Big Bash , " it was certainly hard coming up with a worthy winner ," stated the man whose image now beams back benignly to earth from beyond the Kyper Belt at the very outer most fringes of the solar system . "The BBBB classic has a good ring to it . Bazza's story of survival after Cyclone Anna devastated the political landscape of Queensland is truly amazing . So many were left unroofed, uprooted or unceremoniously unseated and left as just so much political flotsam caked rock hard after the electoral flood waters abated leaving in the stagnant muds of temporal uncertainty little more than a foul and odious stench behind . Somehow Barry clung to life trapped as he was under a flimsy scrap of contractual extension. There he survived on rain water alone 'till finally freed by a gang of passing 'comrades' who heard the faintest of cries for help . It was a story that I found deeply moving reminding me as it did of my own heroic struggle when narrow minded and bigoted people smugglers cast me adrift in the Arafura Sea leaving me for dead only to wash up in my adopted homeland where I became a cultural icon and national treasure . Barry told me of his NDE where Zatopek himself appeared in the guise of Moses instructing him that the 11th commandment should now be , ' wear thy Garmin at all times and wear none other .' It will certainly be a thrill for Barry when he presents me with my age graded winner's trophy on May 2nd and I'd certainly like to thank him for philanthropic endeavours in sponsoring what is fast becoming one of the most popular events on the Winter sporting calender . You're a worthy winner . Thanks mate ! Here's to the 4Bs classic "

The Garmin Lama took time out recently from his astronomical star gazing to talk about his up and coming plans following his triumphal tour deforce of southern states where he continued his park running exploits and added more gold to a collection that now rivals that of the horde found with King Tut . " Yes it was a triumph ," the man of the hour humbly admitted , " and it was real boost as well for my long suffering fans here and in North Korea who gain so much vicariously through my exploits. It was good to catch up with Fossil as well and I was able to point out gross deficiencies in his running action that will help him immensely plus I put him onto Go Lama Hair Rinse to put a little more zest and colour into that magnificent silver mane of his which I thought was looking a little thin of late . " When asked to elaborate on his strenuous training regime the man whose face is now globally recognised as the face of Garmin gave a rare insight into his champion's mind set and make up ,
" recently running through the now chilly early morning darkness of my beloved Roo plus Lake course I looked up into the heavens and reflected on the Voyager space probe that bares my likeness as it travels beyond the reaches of our solar system . Few people are aware that I won the Face of the Voyager Probe Contest in 1977( due no doubt to his Hollywood good looks) , and now both the probe and myself are exploring in our modest ways the very limits of human potential ." With that moving metaphor to human endeavour and achievement the GL was off on his round of media engagements to advertise his May 2nd Minnippi World Age Graded running challenge ( the newly chistened 4Bs classic ) where he is expected to write another glorious chapter in what has been a remarkable journey of both cosmic and personal significance .

It was a clearly emotional and somewhat overwhelmed Perry Taylor who couldn't contain his youthful enthusiasm in getting to run with his idol the Garmin Lama at last Saturdaiy's Sandgate Park run . " I got to run right beside him and at the end he just slowed down and waved me through !" said a coy Perry before fainting with excitement and needing to be revived by paramedics . When asked why the teenager was listed in the 45/49 age group a sheepish Perry admitted , " I just can't wait to grow up and be as old as the Garmin Lama . He's just so cool ! Being young is a real drag . I want to be rich and famous like the GL and have my face on billboards in North Korea and out in space on probes in the Heliosphere . How cool would that be ?" Encouraging young and up coming stars of tomorrow ( like young Perry Taylor) is just the sort of selfless gesture that has endeared the irascible Scottish hero and heart throb to an entire new generation who weren't even born when the GL's image ( along with a few useless scientific gadgets) was launched into space in 1977 . However the man whose image is now recognised even amongst the most remotest of Amazonian tribes said the gloves would be off on May 2nd when he defends his world age graded title before an anticipated sell out crowd of devoted Garminites at Minnippi park lands ( a former toxic waste site made fit for children to play in by an Irish benefactor whose name now christens this iconic run . The 4Bs classic . )

It was noted that at the warm up event to the World Park Run Challenge At the recent Sandgate Park Run the Garmin Lama was not quite at his best but was still able to out age grade the Robot by a mere 0.06 of a percent. And on top of this was smashed on age grading by Anne Ryan who's form has lifted greatly in recent months. Anne is still the favourite to win the age graded challenge. The Robot will surely be out for Revenge on the great Garmin Lama on May 2nd at Minnippi Parklands. The Garmin Lama will have hoards of doting fans come out to cheer him on. They will bring out the best in him. A man with such a cult following won't let his fans down.

Who wrote that load of nonsense . The Garmin Lama was on half throttle and stopping to sigh autographs along the way . He's the consummate gentlemen and was brought up in his bleak Glasgow orphanage to always let a lady go first . He can't perform to his best every week .Sometimes he likes to slow down and offer encouragement to up and coming younger runners . It's a sad day when strength of character is confused for weakness or poor form . The only reason Anne Ryan's form has picked up is that she read the Mr. Garmin Story . She'd never heard of Park running till she read that inspirational story of human triumph over crippling adversity . What could be more natural than that she pick as her debut park run an event that featured her idol . That his presence lifted her to almost top of the Australian age graded rankings is to be expected . It's what is known as the Garmin Lama effect . A rare combination of charisma , human warmth and Scottish tenacity ." Oh Flower of Scotland when will we see your likes again ..."

Legendary Australian distance coach, Pat Clohessy has confirmed he will attend this year's 4Bs classic as guest presenter of the World Age Graded distance running trophy . Clohessy who forged a reputation as one of the world's premier distance running coaches, serving his apprenticeship under iconic figure Arthur Lydiard and mentored by John Landy , will forever be linked with the towering figure of the great Robert de Castella (Deeks ). Clohessy , a keen follower of the Garmin Lama , says he was delighted to be invited to this year's event and said as well it will be hard to pick a winner . Sources close to Clohessy reported his saying, " I know Anne Ryan of course and she's running well that's for sure but who can count the Garmin Lama out . He thrives under pressure and last year's win reminded me of Deek at Rotterdam in '83 when he beat Carlos Lopez . Deek asked me especially to get his autograph . It's a shame Monna is sulking now he's no longer top dog in that age
group ." Other contenders include fellow Scotsman Ian Cameron (Braveheart) , one of world's premier master's distance runners and close confidante of the Garmin Lama and not to be discounted is Phil Davies returning to form after finding his copy of the Mr. Garmin Story lost for the last few years .

Don't forget the Robot. I do think the Garmin Lama could run a little faster if he only trimmed off some of his locks. He could donate them to charity. Or will it have the opposite effect and take away some of his powers like Samson? What about his look alike Con? Is he even coming? Has anyone heard? I'm sure the Garmin Lama will lift an extra 1.5% to overcome Anne Ryan. Yes I think he's got the Robot's measure. He's proved that many times before. So Guess that just leaves the Garmin Lama and Anne. May the best person win.

It was a clearly emotional and distressed Garmin Lama who learnt this week that the 700 kilogram golden statue of his beloved and favourite Dugong , Gertrude , was stolen again from Port Hinchinbrook Resort . Gertrude died in tragic circumstances two years ago when she beached herself in an attempt to be with her master mistaking the bagpipes from Anzac Day commemorations for her master who often played them to lure her in for a feed of her favourite lettuce concoction he lovingly prepared for her . At least she died to the soulful refrains of Scotland The Brave even if it was slightly off key . " I think we know who's behind this gross act of disrespect ," the GL is reported as saying in an obvious reference to certain artificial life forms who care nothing for the carbon based life form notions of fair play and decency . " If he thinks or should I say 'it' thinks this will distract me from my mission than it has another thing coming . Beating a charming lady and president of my fan club is one thing that I'll handle on the day but beating a robotic thief will cause me no pangs of conscience . " It's certainly rare to see the GL this emotional and fired up and it's a brave punter who backs against him to defend his world champion age graded belt come May 2nd .

The Garmin Lama took time out from helping authorities locate the statute of his beloved Dugong, Gertrude , immortalised in Gold and cruelly stolen on the anniversary of her tragic death two years ago and answer questions in regard his hectic schedule of racing over the next few weeks . In a magnaminious gesture he paid tribute to the pioneering figure of Ronnie Peters whose Masters 10k record proved a bridge too far for the personable Scotsman who choose the sunburnt plains and golden beaches of his adopted homeland to be closer to his childhood idol and role model to cross . " It would certainly be fitting if Ronnie was there on May 2nd to partake vicariously in my achievements and console me for failing to beat his record . I'd wanted to equal it as I did with Monna but became confused and disoriented towards the finish . I'm not one to apportion blame or make excuses but we don't need to look further than the Robot to find a scale goat . What a lot of people don't realize is that when I won the Face of Yoyager contest in 1977 I insisted that the body be modelled on Ronnie's . That hand now extended so warmly in a greeting to the great cosmic unknown is Ronnie's right down to the finger prints . The two of us are now joined at the neck forever drifting inexorably through the great expanse of the cosmos , my Holywood good looks and Ronnie's Herculean physique in a wonderfully blended syntheses of human form and elegance bearing silent testimony to the spirit of the human heart . I do become a little emotional when I think of Ronnie and I alone out there so it would ease my angst if he could attend and I could shake once more that hand that is now more than a simple appendage attached to an arm on a silent cosmic traveller but a Garmined metaphor and greeting to the universe ."
