Three Half Marathons

Its been a few years since I completed a Half Marathon so I have just entered THREE of them!
Queensland Half at Deagon on 7th June
Gold Coast Half at Southport on 5th July
Sunshine Coast Half Alexandra Headlands 30th Aug
Better start getting the miles in!

Calf is OK to run on but still painful when rotating ankle.
Many other aches and pains but hope that putting these on my calendar keeps me motivated.

Check out this web site that lists the world age best records.
There is an occasional gap or lapse where you might be able to exploit! Goodluck!
If only we had "indoors" here!

I'm going to be racing over 10000m and 5000m over Easter at the Australian Masters championships. Bruce Graham and Keith Bateman will be there.
M45 Dennis Fitzgerald is running the 5000m and XC, and our front cover model, Phil Davies is entered in every event!

The Garmin Lama remained tight lipped about his upcoming diplomatic trip to North Korea but was more forthcoming in his recently twittered plans to Garminize the world of half marathon running . The affable Scotsman takes up the story , " Yes it's true that I am moving up in distance this year . So many fans write to me and say that they line up , sometimes for hours and in all ranges of climatic extremes to watch me perform and only see perhaps a scant 30 minutes . With advertisement breaks it's barely 20 minutes. Moving up to the more manly distance of Half Marathoning is more in keeping with my virile and timeless image plus my devoted fans get to watch as much as perhaps 71 minutes and 31 seconds of sublime athletic performance . Records ( whatever they are ) are of little importance to me as my running does have a timeless element to it than transcends mere record keeping ." When quizzed further , the man whose image is recognised globally as the international face of Garmin reflected , " there's the world park run challenge at Minnippi on May 2nd which is a major goal . Organisers wanted to call it the Garmin Lama Classic but my innate modesty caused me to decline and I'm asking for my countless fans and adoring female groupies to come up with suggestions . I want the name to honour someone from the past perhaps no longer with us . A memorial race if you will. I think that would be more appropriate than my simply having the race named in my honour . I'm honoured enough ." This is the type of gesture that has ensured that the Garmin Lama is seen as a man of the proletariat . Just your average knock about sort of bloke who became an overnight sensation of rock star proportions .

I doubt I'll be racing - but i'll be there. I have a foot problem (which is actually a hip/nerve entrapment problem) - if I am pain-free I'll have a run on the flat (probably not the XC) - will just have to see. Looking froward to seeing some old faces there. keith

That's fantastic news ! Not that your injured of course but that you will get to present the Garmin Lama with his well deserved age graded trophy that already has his name engraved on it . And imagine the photo opportunity after . You , Braveheart and the GL , three of the finest carbon based life form masters alive on the planet today . Of course now you've confirmed you're still with us you've obviously ruled yourself out of memorial naming rights . The GL is insisting that only those in the celestial spheres qualify for naming rights .

Imagine the photo if Ronnie turned up . The holy trinity of carbon based life form masters morphing into an ageless quaternity of sublime dimensions and captured for posterity in a photo ( by Olga) that would surely become in time an iconic image of the Garmin Age .

World Masters News reported;
Things were certainly heating up on SEQ Masters circuit this weekend as Peter PJ Reeves took a reconnaissance trip out to Minnippi Swamplands parkrun for the keenly anticipated World Age Grade challenge to be held at the same course on 2nd May.
PJ and his irascible band of disciples were well pleased with their efforts. PJ once again cracked the 90% age grading barrier after after spending much of the summer indoors escaping the attention of the Queensland Masters press corps and associated Paparazzi.
PJ or Robot as prefers to be called was quoted as saying
" I'm well pleased to have spanked Phil/Shardy/Con and Bazza ! I wanted to gap Bazza by 5 minutes but you've got to be happy with 3" he said in his thick Cockney accent that us Australians can barely decipher.
" I was slightly worried that Braveheart running at pancake flat and easy New Farm parkrun would 'do me' but I needn't have given him any respect as I smashed him again like I always do!"
The Robot confirmed that the World Title will be up for grabs now on 2nd May.
"She'll be apples mate!" he parped as he waded through the marshy grounds and throngs of hangers-on at the finish.
When asked about his chances up against Queensland Legend iRonnie, Robot smirked and squealed "iwho???"

Forget the Robot . There may be a cheap certificate for honourable mention amongst the psybornetic life forms reluctantly donated by the hosts but they certainly won't be competing on equal billing with the carbon based life forms for the real expensive trophies on offer. The Garmin Lama comprehensively smashed the Robot last year and it's time to move on from that debate . The Robot is yesterday's bad news story . Lets focus on the future . The GL versus KB . The irrepressible against the irresistible with no place for the irrelevant . A clash of ideologies, " Older Yet Faster" versus " When Did I Ever Slow down ?" A mouth watering prospect .

Robot with a cockney accent ? I've heard him mumbling on and it's more like a cross between Darth Vader and Stephen Hawkings but minus the emotion . Give me that rich deep masculine Scottish brogue of David's anytime !

I really enjoyed coach Dion's comments . The only one who makes any sense on this blog .

No ones heard much from Scroopey lately . At his age that isn't good . Check the obituaries mate and if he shows up maybe we call it the Scroopey's Skid-addle Memorial Park Run .He was ( is?) a good bloke and should be remembered . Scroopey if you're out there mate put your hand up otherwise you'll piss Barry off having to re engrave all the trophies .

The Robot has denied rumors he's been avoiding racing Braveheart in news just in from SEQ Masters News.
"I'm no Frankie Howard (Coward) The Robot barked in his thick Cockney accent.
"I might get a bit outta life and death (breath) when I race him, but thats just cos ees all thick and thin (skin) and sticks and stones (bones). It really gets my boiled beef and carrot [claret](blood) boiling when people say I dodge him cos they dont know about my Spanish Onion (bunion) which make me run like an apple cider (spider)! I ave to choose my races carefully ! Geezer!"

Robot's keeper said...

The robot doesn't deny rumours but usually starts them doesn't he ? Denying them would indicate much higher brain processing capacity than his nerual pathways could ever handle . In regard to racing his emotion chip was severly damaged at Minnippi park run challenge last year and proved too costly to repair. He is no longer programmed for feelings. He is totally insensitive and oblivious to barbs and sarcasim. Totally wasted on him . When told that the race maybe christened Robot's Memorial Race he is reported to have gazed blankly into space totally unmoved . A grease smudge misidentified as a tear . When Braveheart played him Flower of Scotland to revive his spirits on his ( non flaming ) bagpipes he simply asked couldn't he afford a flaming set . . Incredibly sad situation . He may attend this year's race and be rented out as a hat stand or pigeon roost .

I think they're harsh comments about the Robot Mr Pelican. You should concentrate on your own form as no one has even sighted you lately. Just come out to Minnippi Parklands on May 2nd and if you happen to beat the Robot, then you can rub salt into his wounds and dent his ego a bit. The Robot happens to show Braveheart a lot of respect as he is a very classy runner who age grades regularly above 90%. Anyway Mr Pelican the real race is between the great Garmin Lama and the one and only KB. I wouldn't worry how fast the Robot will run as he will be back in the pack in this world class field.

Staying calm 101 said...

OK you guys let's cool it . Tensions are building . We know that . Just stay calm . This event on May 2nd isn't a matter of life and death you know . It's much bigger than that ! It's the world masters age graded championship of the Alpha quadrant of the universe for Christ sake . The Fossil is coming . The ever green duo are keen . The pelican is stirring his wings . Braveheat is checking his tide calendar . David is deciding what to call his race . Ronnie is lurking in the wings. Bazza is fine tuning the breakfast menu . Trophies and medals have been ordered . Everyone needs to just take a stress pill and focus on your training . It won't do you much good because the GL is unbeatable at present . Just accept it Keith . Bazza wants you to attend the post race function and not sook off if you don't win . Maybe you could donate a copy of your book to be raffled off . We'll pass the hat around as well so you can give us a coaching clinic using the GL as a reference to running perfection and how sometimes nature can't be improved upon . We challenge you openly as a New South Welshman to find fault in his ( a Queenslander's ) technique .

Lets all help the GL name this race said...

Seems to be a lot of tension building up over what to name this "race" on May 2nd . Problem is the GL is attempting to name a memorial race but isn't quite sure who's deceased or not . So let's all pull together on this one and help him rather than just fuel all this nasty back stabbing . Let's do a roll call of the living . OK? Scroopey . You're still with us . We saw a result for you at Bridgewater . We know you like underdog status but at the moment you're six feet under with your bone mate . You won't be troubling the engraver this year but still come along and make up the numbers . No memorial named in your honour . You're still alive so that rules you out . Shardy you're still with us but a lot of people would love to have a memorial race named after you and contribute to it happening . Braveheart . You're still in the action frame but don't stand side on to the lens . Ronnie . Saw that result at Sandgate so the rumours of your demise were greatly exaggerated . You'll have to wait a while longer yet for a memorial race in your honour . Mad Dog McKenzie is still with us but a cycling death wish doesn't cut it with the GL for naming rights . Sorry Macca . Rules is rules mate . We know Fossil posted on the blog but that may have been the robot stirring up mischief to frighten the GL . If it was you Keith can you put a metaphorical hand up to rule yourself in or out of temporal existence . You're still a chance . Barry . You're still with us . The great survivor . You'd have survived Noah's flood mate . The GL has ruled you out. Con Dimauro is a chance . Looked suicidal on the podium after Braveheart stitched him up . Poor little bugger . Could you send the GL an email to let him know if you're alive mate . Plus he wants that dugong suit back he lent you last year . So you guys ( and girls but not robots) out there start phoning home and letting us know if you're alive or not . That includes the pelican . You're in a high risk occupation mate . No one had heard from you . If you're not with us visit a seance or something . Give the GL a sign . He misses all that technical crap you use to go on with it . Just because he gave up cycling doesn't mean he rejected you . If you're deceased mate you're in with a bloody good chance of having the race named after you . Jimmy you're our father figure and you looked buggered after your last effort . Statistically you're a good chance . Reckon you've got another six or so weeks left in you mate ? If not the Jimmy Woodriff memorial park run would just fit on the trophy .

Phil's friend said...

Phil's Garmin recorded no pulse this morning but he cut himself shaving . So put him down as undecided .

Confused Senior said...

I'm still alive but a little vague on who I am . Bit of a problem with a Masters's age graded competition . Just save an extra spot for me at Bazza's breakfast and put me with Phil in the undecideds column for naming purposes .

Vale said said...

The pelican's stuffed ( deceased) I think . Put him on the memorial list .We'll miss you Frank . And all that technical crap . You only miss it when it's gone .

Anonymous said...

My apologies Mr Pelican. I may have got you confused with Phil's friend. I didn't know the organizers of the race were close to naming the run after you.I hope you're in the undecideds column as I hope you still have a few good runs left in your legs yet. Even if you can't run still come out as it will be a great spectacle watching GL and KB going head to head.

Despite Peter Bracken's performance on Saturday his doctor says he is now over the worst of it and should make a full recovery . Take him out of the possibles ' column and back with the living . Close mate but no cigar for you this time .

Shardy's mate said...

Why apologize to the pelican mate ? He's dead . Deceased . No longer in the land of the Duathlon living . Why feel sorry for him ? He may have a race named after him . That's immortality .
